Alternative dating can mean many things to many people, including those of a religious persuasion.
Whatever your faith (unless you intend to be celibate all your life!), if you are currently single then it stands to reason that at some point, you will want to find an appropriate partner.
If you are a Christian, you may not be aware that there are now a growing number of Christian Dating Sites that exist purely for the purpose of bringing Christian singles together.
These sites definitely fill a gap in the market, which is why they are becoming so popular. After all, meeting an attractive, like-minded, potential partner can be tough if you are a devout, practising Christian. Where do you go to look? Yes, there is always the local church or the Christian meeting house, but too often these are limited in the number of potential partners who attend, who might be suitable for you. Not only that, but looking for love or romance in a place of worship may not sit too well with you. You don’t generally go to church to find a date, do you?
So Christian dating sites definitely serve a useful purpose. They can take you out of the comfort zone of relying on your local church group and introduce you to potential partners you might not meet otherwise.
Now as a Christian, you may be understandably wary of online dating. It’s fair to say that Internet dating is is not always associated with the most positive connotations. However, in recent years, a number of legitimate dating sites have sprung up on the web with a more authentic and honest ethos, focusing specifically on Christian singles.
Where these “Christian Dating Sites” share common ground with other alternative dating services is in their main purpose, i.e. to bring like-minded singles together. Where they differ from more traditional dating sites is in the values they encourage amongst their members. Christian sites generally try to place a far greater emphasis on the morals, religious values and spiritual aspects of their members than on other, more superficial information such as pure looks, for example.
So when you join such a site, you might see a lot more detailed questions on how you really think and feel about things from a personal perspective than you would on a typical dating site.
However, you should be on your guard against dating sites that claim to be Christian, but that do not reflect the true values of Jesus Christ. There are websites for example that have been set up by unscrupulous operators, just to take advantage of Christians who might be looking for love. Typically, these are fairly easy to spot because they are run by the same companies who operate a range of dating and “adult” websites, some of which would never be considered Christian in a million years!
So if you are going to join a Christian dating site, we recommend that you ask yourself the question, who actually runs this site? Is the site independent, or is it associated with other non-Christian or adult sites? If the latter, move on!
